Hi all,
We’ve started building this (finally!).
Would love to get your feedback on our logic so far:
This improvement task seeks to flag up a keyword that is “below first-page bid” and recommends a bid increase to get it to show. Here are a few intricacies I’d like to run by you:
- If the quality score is too low (eg. QS 2), really it’s a QS problem and you probably shouldn’t increase your bid to compensate.
- If the search impression share is high (ie. 80%+) over the last 7 days, then this is probably a minor, passing problem and should sort itself out. (If it doesn’t, the average search impression share will soon drop and we’ll flag it up.)
If we do decide to recommend a bid increase, here’s how we’re looking at it:
- if your current bid is no more than 30% below the first page estimate, we’ll recommend you set the bid at 10% above the first page estimate.
- if you’re more than 30% below (eg. Your bid is at $0.50 and the first page bid estimate is $1.50), then we’ll recommend you increase your bid by 30%. We’ll keep recommending 30% increases until the problem goes away -- edging towards the first page estimate. This is because I’ve occasionally found estimates to be inflated, and you can get a good impression share below the estimate.
- you will of course have the option to Adjust the recommended bid increase or Dismiss the task
In the improvement task we plan on detailing key metrics like QS, impression share, impressions, clicks, cost, avg. CPC, and average position to help you make a decision on whether or not to increase your keyword bid. I’m thinking it might also be helpful to show the last 14 days of search impression share, to gauge whether this is a longstanding problem or just a temporary blip that will likely resolve itself.
Is there anything you think I’m missing here? Please do join the conversation!
Cheers,
Guillaume

with a filter to see CPA of keywords below first-page bid with a CPA comparable to account average. Maybe colour coded green orange and red

Increase it by setting over the limit please, I do this from keywords getting every day by email via script, which then I increase by copy&paste in editor by 5% :)

+1 Would be nice!
I wonder why this isn't in Opteo already. It's pretty basic ;-)
